Adventure awaits along the shimmering shores of Lake Como, where the Lake Como Experience offers a scenic journey through history, beauty, and culture. Spanning 10 kilometers along the lake’s western edge, this well-known Greenway leads through seven villages, each packed with stories, character, and architectural wonders.
Discover a scenic journey along Lake Como’s shimmering shores—history, beauty, and culture woven through seven enchanting lakeside villages.
Starting in the peaceful village of Colonno, which is easy to reach with convenient bus access and parking, explorers can move all the way to the inviting Griante, or simply choose smaller parts for a personalized adventure. The entire walk takes about 2–3 hours and transforms with the seasons, offering blooming gardens in spring, lush landscapes in summer, and a magical atmosphere when autumn colors sweep across ancient rooftops. Strada Regina was a key connection between Como and countries north of the Alps, offering walkers today the thrill of following a path that once linked distant civilizations. Along this route, visitors can appreciate the luxury accommodations that dot the lakeside, providing a perfect blend of relaxation and exploration. The Greenway is also a great way to experience local culinary traditions through nearby eateries that feature unique dishes.
Along the Greenway, visitors journey through colonies like Sala Comacina and Lenno, where ancient roadways built by the Romans—like sections of the Via Regina—blend with medieval towers and Baroque churches. Every stop along the way means stepping onto cobbled streets lined with buildings such as the Palazzo Brentano and charming hamlets like Bonzanigo or Spurano, each providing glimpses into the timeless local life that thrives amidst modern comfort.
One could wander among late-Gothic bell towers or discover elegant Romanesque churches like San Michele Arcangelo, all while enjoying the gentle breeze off the lake. Luxury and history entwine at places like Villa Carlotta, famed for its stunning botanical gardens, and at Villa Melzi, an estate whose gardens practically dip into the lake’s blue waters. Parks such as Teresio Olivelli add splashes of green with fountains and lovely seating for a lakeside picnic—or a short break if your feet start to complain.
Navigation is a breeze thanks to well-marked blue signs, while boat and hydrofoil docks, bars, and restaurants promise that good food, great views, and quick escapes are always within reach.
The Lake Como Greenway brings together ancient stories and modern luxuries, creating an adventure perfect for anyone ready to walk—sometimes with a gelato in hand—through the heart of Italy’s lake paradise.
