LAKE COMO – FIRST-TIME VISITOR PLANNING CHECKLIST
Follow these steps in order.
Don’t skip ahead.
STEP 1 — SET THE BASICS
☐ Choose your travel month
☐ Decide how many nights you will stay (minimum 3 recommended)
☐ Decide if Lake Como is your main destination or part of a longer trip
Do not book accommodation yet.
STEP 2 — CHOOSE YOUR BASE (THIS IS THE KEY DECISION)
☐ Choose ONE town as your base
☐ Check ferry connections from that town
☐ Make sure your base fits your travel style (relaxed / active / scenic)
Only continue once this is clear.
STEP 3 — BOOK ACCOMMODATION
☐ Book accommodation in your chosen base
☐ Confirm walking distance to ferry or transport
☐ Check check-in / check-out times
Do not move hotels during your stay.
STEP 4 — PLAN HOW YOU’LL GET AROUND
☐ Check how ferries work between towns
☐ Decide if you need a car (most first-time visitors don’t)
☐ Check travel times between your base and key towns
Save ferry timetables or apps.
STEP 5 — DECIDE WHAT TO BOOK IN ADVANCE
☐ Accommodation (already done)
☐ Transfers from airport or train (if needed)
☐ One high-demand experience (boat tour, private transfer)
Do not overbook activities.
STEP 6 — BUILD A LIGHT ITINERARY
☐ Choose 1–2 main activities per day
☐ Leave at least one flexible or slow day
☐ Avoid planning more than one town per day
Lake Como rewards slower travel.
STEP 7 — FINAL CHECK BEFORE YOU GO
☐ I am staying in one base
☐ I understand ferry schedules and travel times
☐ I am not trying to see everything
☐ I have backup plans for bad weather
If all boxes are checked, you’re ready to go.
TIP FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS
If something feels rushed on paper, it will feel worse in real life.
